Kipsu, a Minneapolis-based technology company announced last week it is moving to a new office in downtown Minneapolis beginning May 2018. In the last year, it has quickly outgrown its current headquarters in Northeast Minneapolis, having tripled its personnel since 2016. The move will increase the company’s square footage by much needed 2,000+ square feet, bumping up the footage of the current accommodations by over forty percent.
The decision to move was sparked by Kipsu’s recent milestone of hiring its 50 full-time team member. The 5,000 square foot space in the Highlight Center at 807 Broadway St. NE in Minneapolis, which Kipsu has called home for the last two years, will not accommodate the rest of the company’s 2018 hiring forecast.
Wanting to keep the native Northeast Minneapolis company in the city, Kipsu’s leadership chose to move headquarters an easy 1.8 miles southwest into the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis, putting Kipsu in close proximity to Target Field, First Avenue and a number of downtown restaurants.
Staying in the Twin Cities was non-negotiable for CEO and former venture capitalist Christopher Smith. “Minneapolis marks a unique intersection of big city tech and midwest practicality. We have a rich startup community and a great candidate pool without the the exorbitant lifestyle and high costs of areas like Silicon Valley.”
The new 7,300 square foot space in the Butler North building at 510 N 1st Ave in Minneapolis gives Kipsu room to grow as hiring projections continue to be ambitious in the upcoming year. As Kipsu moves into the heart of Minneapolis and expands its office, the startup will have the space to continue attracting top talent and expand its ever-growing team.
